CAMPAIGNS
The importance of our issue is usually better understood and galvanised
around through focused campaigning on particular aspects of women’s
rights.
One in Nine Campaign-In Solidarity with Women who Speak
Out
Since 2006, due to the infamous Jacob Zuma Rape trial, POWA as the
founding organisation mobilised sister organisations in the violence
against women, HIV/AIDS and Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual & Transgender
sector to formulate the 1 in 9 campaign .This is a successful awareness
strategy where we play a secretariat role. Currently the Campaign
provides support to Buyisiwe, a woman who survived a gang rape in
Tembisa, 2005 in her fight for justice.

070707 (Triple Seven) National Campaign Against Hate Crimes
The Triple-7 Campaign was initiated by the Joint Working Group (a
national network of organisations focusing on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender and Intersex issues) in reaction to the brutal murders
of Sizakele Sigasa and Salome Massoa on the 7th of June 2007 in
Soweto. The campaign aims to highlight violence perpetrated against
LBGTi people in particular black lesbians. POWA forms part of the
legal cluster of the Campaign. You can support the campaign by participating
in events, creating awareness, challenging homophobia where you
see it, and making donations to the campaign.
